Anto Boghokian, spent the school months in Kuwait, and the summers in the Lebanese countryside of Anjar. The 1990 events of the Gulf War made the United States his permanent home. He has experienced first hand the 20+ year struggle of gaining residency in the U.S.
Anto found poetry as a means to deal with all his struggles. However his poetry was private. He started training as an actor with Anthony Gilardi in 2011. His coached challenged Anto to find his voice, and asked Anto to perform one poem a week for six months.
His desire for positive change led to an unrelenting examination of how time was spent. This was the 1000 hour writing journal (which turned into his first book and journal). This journey ignited his passion to perform his poetry.
In February of 2012 he attended and performed at his first open mic held at The Last Bookstore in DTLA, hosted by Lady Basco. By March of 2012, he wanted to create a space for an authentic, safe, and grassroots performance community. Thanks to the generosity of a faith community on the corner of Fountain Ave & Edgement giving him a free room to use, he started producing a show called Streaming Hope. The agenda was to love artist, give opportunity to inspire and be inspired, and develop a community of support with zero agenda. After 20 shows the space was no longer available. However, community created, three couples met (and later got married) at a show, and artists flourished. It was resatrted and currently runs at Metro Cafe in Downtown Santa Monica on the third Thursday of the month.
The acting gene was passed on from his father who acted in theatres in the Armenian theatre company of Kuwait. His training started in 2002, when he stepped into the middle school. He spent 13 years teaching, math and science and eventually acting and poetry until 2015.
He has published one book a year since 2018. When he was inspired to type up his journal from 2011 (1000 Hours: The Questions That Changed My Tomorrows) in an effort to live an authentic and transparent life. Now that he had a wife and daughter, he realized how precious time truly was. Then he wrote On Conscious Love, and Human Nature: A poetic journey through the human condition.
His first major role was in an Indi film called Victims. He has appeared on The Mentalist, a Lifetime TV film called "Zoe Gone," and even found his way into Bollywood in “I Am Singh.” His first role as a poet was in the Film Mingle. Currently, he is developing his one man spoken word show called “Redemption.”
"My mission in life is to change lives. I use every avenue within my gifts and abilities to fulfill my mission. I believe finish lines are for athletes. I'm an artist, I'll never be done."
He finds his inspiration from these two quotes :
A determinate purpose in life,
and a steady adhesion to it through all disadvantages,
are indispensable conditions of success,” WM Pushon.
Mark 8:36 “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?.”
